Living by the Spirit

Romans 8:15,23,26 –  Living by the Spirit, a sermon by Rev. Ralph Adams.

Earlier in this chapter, Paul speaks about ’life through the Spirit.’  He says of believers who receive the Spirit of Christ, ”You… are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him[1]

When you believe in Jesus Christ as your Saviour, a remarkable thing happens, simultaneous with your believing… the Spirit of God comes and makes His home in your heart.   And from that time forth, you’re adopted into God’s family.

Charles Spurgeon speaks about the power of the Holy Spirit to keep us actively engaged in living in God’s family; “Without the Spirit of God, we can do nothing. We are as ships without the wind, branches without sap, and like coals without fire, we are useless.”

Bearing this in mind, this morning I want to investigate how the Holy Spirit helps us to live in God’s family, a theme I recently preached on.  I will do this by looking in turn at the three separate verses that make up the text.
